Hikes & Walking Tours

  • Lost Barrel Hike: Enjoy a 1.5-mile guided hike through the Salamander woods to Lost Barrel Brewing. The experience lasts approximately two hours. Pricing begins at 25.00 per guest, one-way, with a 10-person minimum, and is paid directly to the brewery. Guests may explore the brewery and giftshop. Transportation back to the resort is not included and must be arranged separately. Available Thursday through Sunday; larger groups may reserve the brewery for an additional fee. Participants must be 21 years of age or older, present valid identification, and wear closed-toe shoes; sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.

 

  • Middleburg History Walking Tour: Starting from the Red Fox Inn, the nation’s oldest continually operating inn since 1727, guests learn about the history of Salamander Middleburg while passing the town’s visitor center and the Jacqueline Kennedy Pavilion. The tour explores fox hunting, the Civil War, and the formation of the Mosby Rangers, and includes a visit to Sharon Cemetery to view the first monument dedicated to unknown soldiers as well as an original Rodin sculpture. The experience lasts approximately 90minutes and is priced at 65.00 per guest, based on a four-person minimum

 

  • Foraging Hike: Learn from the experts at Ashby Gap Adventures how to forage for wild edibles that form the basis of our regional cuisine in the Virginia landscape. Part classroom part hands-on field experience, learn the proper foraging techniques and different recipes to create with your findings. Sample oils, vinegars, sauces, ferments and spices and take home your bounty and use what you learned to create delicious recipes at home!

 

  • The Hammer Down Ride Center: Explore the surrounding countryside on a guided bike tour using TIME Bicycles’ gravel or road bikes through The Hammer Down Ride Center. Tours are led by local cycling experts and feature custom routes, with e-bikes available for an additional fee. Short (Beginner): 90 minutes, 215.00+ per guest Medium (Intermediate): 150 minutes, 265.00+ per guest Long (Advanced): four hours, 300.00+ per guest Two-person minimum; groups of two to six.
