4-Day Family Itinerary

Make new traditions during your family getaway to Salamander Middleburg. Spread across 340 acres in the heart of Virginia’s horse country, our resort is the perfect playground for families looking to unplug, reconnect, and explore together. This 4-day adventure combines immersive outdoor experiences, hands-on learning, and moments of rest and relaxation for parents and children alike. Whether it’s your child’s first zip line or a fireside evening of marshmallows and laughter, your family’s story finds its next chapter here.

Family Ziplining

Day 1: Morning

Kick off your adventure with a high-flying thrill at Salamander Adventures, where kids (ages 7 and up) can zipline through the treetops on lines ranging from 275 to 675 feet. With trained guides and panoramic views, it’s a shared family milestone that delivers laughter, adrenaline, and forest-floor bragging rights.

Indoor Pool

Day 1: Afternoon

After lunch at Gold Cup Wine Bar, head to our spacious indoor pool for some family splash time. Whether it’s cannonballs or leisurely floating, this relaxed setting is ideal for play and downtime. Parents can unwind poolside while little ones paddle and play.

Harrimans Dining Room

Day 1: Evening

Enjoy family dinner at the Five-Star Harrimans Grill featuring expertly crafted dishes inspired by the surrounding Piedmont region. Some fresh seasonal ingredients come from the on-site culinary garden just steps away from your dining table. Afterwards, gather in your suite for a family movie night complete with an imaginative dessert delivery in-room.

Children Pet Horse in Stables

Day 2: Morning

Start your day with our Family Scavenger Hunt at the Equestrian Center, where kids explore the stables and meet our friendly horses while hunting for hidden clues. Make it extra memorable by joining our Paint-a-Pony activity, where children learn about horse markings and get hands-on with creativity.

Complimentary Family Bikes

Day 2: Afternoon

Explore the surrounding countryside with a family bike ride. Rent Shinola bicycles for a charming cruise into The Town of Middleburg or grab Trek mountain bikes for a trail adventure on property. Prefer a slower pace? Pick up a bird-watching guide from the concierge desk and see how many feathered friends you can spot together.

Firepit Evenings

Day 2: Evening

As the sun sets, make your way back to the Grand Lawn for an old-fashioned evening around the firepits. Pick up a marshmallow kit from Gold Cup and roast the perfect s’more. It’s a cozy, screen-free ritual that wraps your day in warmth, sweetness, and stories shared by firelight.

Group Trail Rides

Day 3: Morning

Saddle up for a Group Trail Ride through scenic woodlands and meadows. For riders ages 10 and up, it’s a peaceful yet exhilarating way to experience horse country together. Younger guests can enjoy a walk-through of the stables, or say hello again to Cupcake the miniature horse, who is always ready for photos and hugs.

Camp Salamander

Day 3: Afternoon

Let the kids enjoy a few hours of themed fun at Camp Salamander (ages 4–10), where creativity and outdoor play combine into unforgettable memories. Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a quiet stroll, a couples spa treatment, or get active with a game of tennis or pickleball.

Dining on Gold Cup Terrace

Day 3: Evening

Enjoy dinner al fresco on our Gold Cup terrace, where kids can run free on the Grand Lawn while parents enjoy seasonal fare crafted by our culinary team. It’s relaxed yet refined dining with stunning views and plenty of space for laughter, bites, and barefoot moments under the setting sun.

Family Walk

Day 4: Morning

Start your last day with a Resort Walk - a casual, all-ages morning stroll around the property that awakens the senses and deepens your connection to nature. For older kids (12+), opt for a guided hike through our preserved woodlands for a deeper dive into Virginia’s natural beauty.

National Sporting Museum

Day 4: Afternoon

Before heading home, stop by the National Sporting Library & Museum in downtown Middleburg. With interactive exhibits on horses, hounds, and heritage, it’s a fun and educational outing that ties your whole trip together. A final chance to explore, learn, and reflect together.
